What to expect on your first visit?
Your first visit is called an Initial Assessment. It is important as a thorough history is taken. This allows the therapist to gain a solid understanding of you, your history and your goals for the future and discuss limits of therapy and important things like confidentiality surrounding therapy. This initial meeting also allows you to gauge how comfortable you are with the counseling process. If both you and the therapist decide to proceed, further meetings will be scheduled. If the presenting client is a child (under the age of 18) both parents/guardians must consent to treatment. It is recommended that both parents/guardians attend the initial assessment, as this allows both parents/guardians to provide their own perspective of the child.
